Adaptive Riders Collective

“Through the power of social media we connected, and realised how much of a shared vision we had” – Neil Russell, Director, Adaptive Riders Collective.

Generating funding to in turn support projects and causes that share our ethos and help to deliver bike derived resilience is one of our key aims here at Rider Resilience, so when Nils came across Adaptive Riders Collective CIC on Instagram, it certainly piqued his interest.

Adaptive Riders Collective (ARC) is a non-for-profit community interest company with its core goal of making off-road adaptive cycling available to more people, and to build a community focused on access, inclusion and integration to the mainstream cycling world.

In their early days, the team at ARC ran a 24hr team relay cycle in Aberfoyle, Scotland, to raise funds for their cause and to help them get things off the ground. It was at this point where Nils and Neil got chatting on Instagram, which was soon followed by a video call where they talked about the power of cycling to help get through the tough times, the freedom it can give to people and the vision each other had for their recently established community interest companies.

After these initial conversations, it was a no brainer, ARC would be the first organisation for us here at Rider Resilience to pay forward the joy derived from riding through our funding scheme.

“We were blown away by the amazing support we received from Rider Resilience. ARC was their first beneficiary and that funding has helped us deliver so much during the 2023 season. It has allowed us to reach many new, and existing, adaptive riders which in turn has helped us create a thriving community of disabled and non-disabled off-road cyclists. The Rider Resilience funding also contributed to us expanding our fleet of e-assist off-road handcycles meaning that 2024 is going to be an even bigger year where we can offer more activities to more people. The ethos and goals that Rider Resilience promotes is shared completely with ARC and the work that we do. The benefits that so many are receiving because of the support from Rider Resilience is nothing short of life changing and we can’t thank all those who are part of the Rider Resilience community enough.

2023 has been an amazing year for the Adaptive Riders Collective! We’ve supported riders to take part in so many off-road cycling events as well as creating opportunities for new riders to come along to ‘come and try’ sessions and find out what off-road adaptive cycling is all about. These sessions have given people the chance to fall in love with cycling and the freedom, mental and physical health, and social opportunities that getting outdoors has to offer.” - Neil Russell
